The improved albright is a great knot for sport fishing, it allows for a wide variety of breaking strains to be used as long as the braid to nylon ratio does not exceed 2:1. E.g. 30lb braid - 60lb nylon. The only drawback of this knot with heavy leaders is that it does not cast well as the tag end faces the guides during casting. This is my knot of choice when using leaders between 2lb and 20lb. For best knot strength use an 8 core braid which will retain a round profile to stop the braid cutting into the leader material. My favorites are Daiwa Saltiga 8 braid & Black Magic Rainbow Braid (available in spools up to 1000 meters).
