Saltiga Surf Spin Reel
Saltiga Surf Spin Reel
When most people think about a day of surf fishing they generally don't think about catching fish in excess of 20kg, if however the thought of huge mulloway, sharks and other surf predators gets you excited, then the Saltiga Surf 4500 spin reel and three piece 13 foot rod is for you.

Made for braid this reel features the new Digigear II system which is the smoothest gearing I've felt to date, yet it delivers winding power only matched by other reels in the Saltiga range. The most attractive feature of this reel for the surf angler is the long cast spool allowing effortless casting of monster baits like whole salmon, tailor and mullet. Coupled with all of the standard Saltiga features such as airbail, crbb ball bearings and a lightweight metal body that eliminates all

body torque even with ridiculous drag settings of 30kg.

One thing i immediately noticed about this reel is that it is considerably lighter in weight than the Saltiga Z4500, coupled with the high modulus graphite rod fitted with lightweight Alconite Fuji guides makes the whole unit effortless to hold for extended periods. Another helpful feature is the counter weight inside the parallel butt section of the rod to assist with power casting. I also found the low rider guides to funnel the heavy leader, including the bulky 60lb shock leader knot, perfectly. It is hard to get your head around the frictionless nature of these guides as they defy all design logic of standard guide concepts.

Ultimately this series of rods is aimed at the serious angler either desiring to tangle with big fish or requiring extreme casting distance with weight as heavy as 10 ounces.

I can see that they will gain huge popularity in South Australia and Perth where heavy surf conditions and an army of dedicated surf anglers will appreciate this new addition to the Daiwa range.
